Constructing Your Mancave

Sometimes you need somewhere to retreat to. You need privacy, you just want to relax and enjoy your hobbies, be they gaming, watching slasher movies or enjoying sports without interruptions of judgement. If you’re moving in with a partner or starting a family, this need can become acute – you don’t even have a bedroom to retreat to.

The answer could be to turn a spare room into your own safe haven, your mancave. Today we’re looking at how you can set up the mancave you need to retreat from the world!

Preparation

First of all, you need to create a blank canvas to work with. Don’t just shove boxes aside in your spare room, attic or basement. If you can’t unpack them and give the contents a home, look for London storage options, to keep your clutter safely contained, in a self-storage unit.

Once you’ve emptied the room you’ll be using, give it a good airing out, and a clean. You might also want to paint it: think about the colour scheme you’d like, and whether you’d want comforting, richer colours or light colours that emphasise space and light.

You might also want to consider patterned wallpaper to create a unique effect – getting inspired by your favourite books and TV shows is a good way to go when you’re creating a den like this. Perhaps it could be your own version of Baker Street!

Personalisation

The next step is realising that there is no one template for the perfect mancave. This needs to be your personal relaxation and retreat, so make sure it’s perfect for you. Think about the ways you like to relax, and make sure you have everything you need to indulge yourself. If you’re into gaming, you’ll a comfortable chair, a big tv and shelves for your consoles and games. If you’re more of a craftsman and tinkerer, your mancave will need to be more of a workshop!

It doesn’t have to cost the earth: looking at sites like Freecycle and Craigslist can get you cheap or free furniture to get you started. You could always replace them with nicer alternatives piece by piece over the months and years.

Sharing

One thing you have to question is whether or not it’s fair for you to simply disappear into your own room, leaving your partner alone, or caring for children. If they don’t have their own equally private space, you might be taking a liberty too far. If you’re looking for privacy when you start a family, it might make more sense to convert your mancave into a shared ‘grown ups’ room where either partner can take a break from the stress of parenting.

Protecting Your Mental Health During Stressful Family Situations

Everyone has to handle some amount of stress every day of their lives. Nothing ever goes perfectly. Things break. Other people are unpredictable. Stuff happens. But especially when things happen inside of family situations, the stress can be overwhelming. And that’s when you have to start protecting your mental health.

What are some situations where mental health may become an even higher priority? Are you going through a divorce? Are you moving to a new area? Are your children misbehaving? And finally, are you going to changing economic circumstances? All of the situations inside of your family structure can mean that stress reaches higher levels, and you have to do more to protect your mental clarity.

Divorce

If you’re going through a divorce, everything can get complicated, and your mental health can suffer. If you have to figure out spousal maintenance as you’re going through your separation process, you can feel overwhelmed and distressed. Having a lawyer help you out the details can be a considerable alleviation to your personal stress, and making sure that you keep in contact with family members who do support you will also go a long way into ensuring that your anxieties don’t get the better of you.

Moving To a New Area

Moving your family to a new area can be hugely stressful. You have to decide how to pack your house up. You know at least subconsciously that many your spending habits are going to have to change. Your sense of familiarity is going to go out the window. If you’re starting a new job, that means things are made even more difficult on everyone. So your mental health is going to suffer. Knowing this, keep lines of communication open with family members and recognize that everyone is going to be chippy at each other until the move is complete.

Misbehaving Children

Dealing with misbehaving children is something that no parent or adult likes. Unfortunately, it is a part of being responsible for a younger human being. Even though it may be painful to punish a child for misbehaving, you have to figure out where to draw the line with behaviors that can eventually be dangerous especially.

Changing Economic Circumstances

Going to changing economic circumstances puts a significant stress on the family as well. Often the pressure comes when a parent gets laid off for their employment is somehow reduced. But, if suddenly someone is making a lot more money, that presents a whole other set of issues. Other family members may feel entitled to more of those resources, which makes you feel emotionally and mentally like you’re being used. Take small steps to ensure that everyone is on the same page psychologically when these changes in financial circumstances occur.

Staying Healthy and Safe In Work Environments

As much as we have control over health and safety in our home environments, we should try to maintain that same sort of applicability in work environments as well. If you’re in a position as an owner or manager, you have specific attributes that you can work to maintain. However, if you’re an employee or a customer at a place of business, there are things that you can do as well.

Keeping healthy and safe means different things in different places. There is physical safety in construction zones. There is researching what common workplace injuries are so that you can avoid them. In office environments, there are ergonomic options that help with health and safety. Also, tangentially, if you think about snacks or other food that are available in workplaces, that contributes to health as well.

Construction Zones

In a classic example of physical safety, you have to wear safety equipment around construction zones. Have you ever noticed that everyone at a construction site has a hard hat on, and should be wearing work boots? That’s because, in construction sites, things fall all the time. Nails, screws, bolts, pieces of construction material – all of those things are potential hazards, which is why the safety equipment is required in the first place.

Typical Workplace Injuries

Sometimes to know how to stay healthy and safe at work, you have to understand what common workplace injuries are in the first place. If you’re not aware that carpenters hit their fingers with hammers or that dental assistants suffer from sore backs, then you might not know what to do to prohibit those issues from happening. There are plenty of places that you can research workplace injuries, and then you can adapt your behaviors from there.

Ergonomic Options

In office environments, there are all sorts of very subtle workplace injuries that can become more severe over time. Back pain, wrist pain, leg pain – all of these can happen because of bad ergonomics. As a manager, you can provide employees with ergonomic chairs, and that will resolve a whole host of issues. Getting them standing desks can also help with some of the mobility issues that happen in the long-term.

Snacks and Nutrition

As much as you want to avoid injuries from falling objects or bad chairs or dangerous equipment, keeping yourself healthy is also about putting the right fuel in your body as well. The workplace that sells candy bars and snack machines and energy drinks is going to end up being a less healthy place than somewhere that they sell fresh fruit and sandwiches. Especially if you’re in charge of this as workplace manager, try and make nutritionally dense options available to your employees, and their good health will improve.

The greatest challenge, and struggle, people can face in their lives

Recovering from a substance addiction can prove to be by far the greatest challenge, and struggle, people can face in their lives. Trying to face this most difficult task on your own is extraordinarily difficult, if not virtually impossible for most people. Those who are facing severe alcohol or drug addiction find their very best hope for recovery in seeking professional help to fight this life-threatening situation. And the sooner they recognize their problem, and seek the assistance they need to fight and beat the addiction, the much greater chance they can recover and get their life back again.

Addiction doesn’t discriminate. It affects everyone- all races, sexes, social stratas, sexual orientation, and ages have great numbers of people that are suffering substance addiction on one level or another. Fortunately, there are outstanding programs and treatment facilities, like the pinnacle recovery center, that are there to help.

Highly qualified, professional recovery centers fully recognize that addiction to different substances necessitate treatment specific to that given substance that person is addicted to. Types Of Treatment Programs For Addiction will focus specifically on the given substance of choice. These centers don’t merely offer a “one-size-fits-all”, all-encompassing program for all substance addictions. This is very important for people to recognize if they want help, and are looking at potential recovery centers to start getting this help.

Superior recovery center programs will provide rehab for users addicted to alcohol, cocaine, meth, opiates, Xanax, and heroin. These centers, fully staffed by professionals with extensive experience in addiction treatment, make it paramount that each individual patient is diagnosed and treated with a personalized treatment plan of recovery.

The in-depth treatment provided by experienced caretakers and case managers include a variety of treatments and therapies, with critical inpatient rehabilitation being at the very core of a successful, lasting recovery.

Addiction is often the result of some deeper, unresolved issues in someone’s life. Counselors and patients will have very in-depth, personal talks about various aspects of the patient’s life, which in turn helps to formulate their specific, personalized plan. Inpatient rehab integrates combined therapies, dual diagnosis, and case management to really take the addiction on effectively.

Inpatient rehab involves any treatment the client receives while living onsite at the treatment facility for the duration of their specific treatment. The first 30 days of a client’s recovery are especially difficult for them, both mentally and physically, so the 24-hour care they receive while being at the facility is critically important. Depending on the level of severity of addiction the client is experiencing, programs inpatient typically range from 30-90 days. If after the full time spent in this program is still not enough, those who are seeking help should look for a treatment program and facility that offers Long-Term rehab. These programs, ranging from 90 days up to one year, are mainly for people who have tried and failed to get clean more than once in their past.

Outpatient rehab provides valuable treatment services to clients that simply cannot spend at least 30 days in an inpatient program, or for those clients who may not necessarily need the intensive attention and care that the inpatient program provides. It’s a terrific option for those who need help, but not quite at the level that necessitates inpatient care.

Since clients have all different types of responsibilities with varying schedules in their lives, outpatient rehab is also tailored to the client’s availability. Though treatment in outpatient rehab is less intensive than that experienced in an inpatient situation, the same amount of support and care is provided to the client here.

As mentioned, there can often be a mental health component that could be a fundamental element in a person’s addiction. In times past, a mental health situation OR an addiction was diagnosed and treated, but not both concurrently. Today, there are dual-diagnosis treatment programs that address these two critical issues together. Healing with treatment for one affliction, while not addressing the needs of the other often leads individuals back to their destructive behavior. Often, the substance use will mask the underlying problems people don’t really see due to their increasing substance use. Counseling with trained professionals may very well uncover this dual diagnosis, helping to put together a treatment plan specific to both the mental and physical components to this person’s given situation.

Clients can benefit immeasurably from both individual therapy, where they can really open up and build a solid relationship with their counselor; and group therapy, where they can share their experiences, and learn from others who are in the same, or very similar, circumstances they are currently in.

Solution to Baldness

I still remember a friend of mine who started losing hair at a very young age. He was only 21 years old at the time, but the idea of baldness was a rather frightening to him. It was a long time ago, and I believe that back then hair loss prevention treatment wasn’t as advanced as it is today. Luckily for all those men ( and I know that men are especially prone to this) these days the number of solutions to the problem is a lot wider than ever before and more and more men can enjoy the benefits of hair loss prevention as well as its treatment.

If you want to try out something you have never tried before, I recommend that you opt for something called Finasteride. The effectiveness of it has been already proven by a large number of patients who were able to recover their disappearing hair instead of worrying that it is gone forever. The medication was discovered by accident during a trial regarding a completely different health issue, but has been used for hair growth ever since.

One of the best things about Finasteride is the lack of side effects. Of course, as with all kinds of drugs, side effects still might take place because we all react differently to different medications, but the chances of this happening are close to zero. With the exception of initial shedding, which is quite normal in the beginning, and which goes away after a while, chances are absolutely minimal that something might happen to you.

If you would like to learn more about some methods that might help you with baldness, I suggest that you contact Hair Repair Clinic, which offers free hair loss advice on the following number: 0800 6990209. If this is something you have never tried before, know that you have nothing to lose but a lot to gain. Being bald is nothing to be happy about, but with some new solutions available on the market we can finally now rejoice because hair growth is becoming reality.

Vaping ‘Almost 100% Healthier’ Than Smoking

New evidence, in the form of detailed research by tobacco experts, has uncovered a fact about using electronic cigarettes over the more traditional ones containing tobacco: they’re almost 100% healthier. Those of us working on our health and fitness plans, but still having the occasional tobacco cigarette — perhaps in the evenings or at weekend parties — may want to consider making the switch.

Up until now there has been considerable confusion about e-cigarettes — using them is called “vaping”, not “smoking”, as no smoke, but instead vapor, is given off — with many people unsure about whether or not vaping was safer than smoking. This is hardly surprising, given that e-cigarettes haven’t been around all that long and have only really began to take off in popularity in the last few years. Since then, people desperate to kick their smoking habit have increasingly been switching to e-cigs, with vape gear like Juul in huge demand, and many have successfully managed to quit tobacco, according to health authorities in Britain, at least.

The leading health authority in England, Public Health England (PHE), recently issued a revised review of e-cigarettes seeking to reassure a worried public about any health risks associated with vaping. Indeed, the UK has been at the forefront of vaping research and health chiefs there are now urging smokers to take up vaping instead, as they have concluded that it’s far healthier and contains almost none of the risks associated with smoking tobacco.

Vaping Vs Smoking

For its review, PHE had a panel of top independent tobacco experts examine e-cigarette use among adults and young people, and looked at the impact vaping has in helping people to quit deadly smoking. Tobacco products, after all, kill half their users and, around the world, some 7 million people die each year due to tobacco-related illnesses — nearly 1 million of whom only inhale secondhand smoke.

After their research, the tobacco experts declared that:

  • Vaping poses only a small fraction of the risks of smoking and switching completely from smoking to vaping conveys substantial health benefits
  • E-cigarettes could be contributing to at least 20,000 successful new quits per year and possibly many more
  • E-cigarette use is associated with improved quit success rates over the last year and an accelerated drop in smoking rates across the country.

But due to a lack of understanding among the public about the clear health benefits of vaping compared to smoking, many smokers were still fearful of using e-cigarettes. The heath body said: “many thousands of smokers incorrectly believe that vaping is as harmful as smoking; around 40% of smokers have not even tried an e-cigarette.”

What’s in an E-Cig Anyway?

The important health aspect of e-cigarettes, compared to tobacco cigarettes, is that they don’t contain all the many thousands of harmful chemicals emitted during the process of burning tobacco, at least 70 of which are known to cause various cancers. E-cigs have e-liquid refills that may or may not have nicotine in them, but will have a fruit flavor, like strawberry, pineapple or mango, or a traditional flavor such as tobacco or menthol. All are easily available at a good online vape store.

Smokers can now get the nicotine they want, without the poisonous chemicals that come from burning tobacco. Nicotine is not known to be especially harmful to the human body and its effects have been likened to those of caffeine in coffee. With e-liquids containing varying strengths of nicotine, smokers who make the change can gradually lower the amount they vape until they can just enjoying vaping for the flavors alone.

It all adds up to a huge boost in any smoker’s health and fitness plan.

What is abstract photography?

A well-chosen abstract photograph can make a true statement in your home or workplace. Subtle details, oblique references and bold colours make a real talking point. But how do we define abstract images and how are they different to conventional landscape or portrait imagery?

Since the creation of film photography in the 19th century, photographers have experimented with form, light and style to produce inspirational art. Their work and that of others in this form capture the distilled essence of a subject. The overall meaning of a piece may be merely implied or out of context, leaving it open to interpretation by the viewer.

There are no set rules when it comes to creating abstract photography, but most artists focus on and follow a set of characteristics to distinguish them from conventional forms of imagery. Colour, line, shape, texture, geometry and symmetry all feature strongly in this form. Familiar objects are made unfamiliar by a tight focus of one small fragment. For example, an image of a washing line could be made abstract by focusing on a single water droplet on the object. By making the viewer aware of only the essence of a subject and forcing them to use their senses to explore it further, an abstract image is made.

So how do photographers capture these images? Again, there are no set photographic techniques but more an experimentation and amalgamation of existing ones. With the rise of digital photography, the scope and possibilities have been broadened allowing photographers to explore editing techniques post-processing. A photographer will often use macro techniques alongside motion blur, long exposures and multiple exposures. An eye for light, shadows and textures is essential in picking out minute or unique details which will abstract a subject.

In essence, an abstract image is a non-objective conceptual photograph. Its subject will often be broken down into a small detail leaving the viewer to decide its true origin. A deeper meaning may be implied, or the image may be created purely for the stunning aesthetic an abstraction can create. Whatever the purpose and intention of the photographer, can make a truly modern statement. We can help you find the perfect piece, with all our prints available in various sizes and as open edition prints.

Taking Care of Your Health Early

The Internet has completely revolutionised the way we do things, and this also applies to out health. Not only can we get valuable information about dieting and exercising on the Web, but one opportunity that emerged recently is the possibility to buy medicines online, which can be an easy and convenient way to do so.

Here are some pluses of buying medicines from places such as Medicine Direct, which is an approved place you can always trust because they are fully licensed and registered in the UK and they sell prescription drugs only:

1. You don’t have to leave your home in order to get the treatment. With certified websites like this one everything happens online. This can be especially useful if you are in a lot of pain and cannot even leave your home due to medical reasons. All of the medications are sent to you via mail to ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the treatment.

2. If you are one of those people who don’t fancy seeing a doctor face to face and would prefer more confidentiality then an online pharmacy like this one is perfect for you. 3. An online pharmacy is also a great option once you already know what your problem is and you know more or less what your treatment is going to be. I agree that sometimes you might not know exactly what your health issue is, and if this is the case a visit to the doctor is absolutely necessary, but often, especially if you have been taking a medication for a while it should be easy for you to keep taking what you have been taking for some time. If your problem is obvious, this should only encourage you to further use the services of an online pharmacy.

As you can see, there are many benefits of using the services of certified online pharmacies, so remember about it next time you need a treatment.

4 Things That Happen Immediately When You Stop Drinking

Many people choose to stop drinking at some point whether it’s for a few months or forever.  Whether they think they have an addiction, or they just want to take a break for the sake of taking a break, there are so many advantages to quitting alcohol.

Even though it’s entirely possible to enjoy alcohol in small doses without it negatively affecting you, it’s often challenging for some people to find the appropriate boundaries.

Here are some of the things that you can expect almost immediately when you eliminate alcohol from your life.

Clarity

One of the reasons why alcohol is so loved by many is because it seems to make all of our problems wash away.  It’s associated with celebration and social gatherings, making us feel happy and upbeat.

One of the reasons for this lighthearted freedom, however, is because you’re in a fog.  Alcohol slows down your cognitive abilities, and as a result, you feel less inhibited and carefree.

However, with these feelings of euphoria, comes delayed responses, and difficulty being able to process situations clearly.  You may become easily emotional or aggressive about things that wouldn’t frequently affect you, and you may have trouble remembering details the next day.

When you stop drinking, you suddenly get rid of all of the murk and have clarity instead.  You experience your feelings in a present state rather than as a backseat passenger.

Better Sleep

Alcohol may make you fall asleep faster. However, you’re less likely to stay asleep.  Too much alcohol in your system stops you from entering a REM state of sleep.  As a result, you often wake up feeling more tired than you did before.

The minute you eliminate alcohol, you start waking up earlier and feeling more energized.  It takes less sleep to feel rested, and your energy levels are sustained throughout the day.

Weight Loss

Since the average alcoholic drink has between two hundred and four hundred calories, it’s easy to start adding up extra calories.  One night of a few casual drinks can quickly become the equivalent of three or four hamburgers if you’re not careful.

In addition to the empty calories in alcohol, you’re likely to binge on less than healthy food options when drunk.  Anyone who’s ever found themselves at a fast food drive in at two o’clock in the morning knows the feeling.  Taking a break from drinking will start to affect your waistline almost right away.

Less Anxiety

If you’re someone who is prone to stress and anxiety, then drinking isn’t going to do you any favors.  When you consume alcohol, you’re throwing in all sorts of variables which could negatively impact your anxiety levels.

From poor sleep to potentially making embarrassing decisions which you regret later, alcohol only adds to stress.

Try taking a break from alcohol for ten days and see how you feel.  Chances are you may just be convinced to cut it out of your life forever.

4 Tips For Starting a New Workout Routine

When you haven’t worked out in a while or perhaps haven’t ever worked out at all, starting a new routine is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. In order to make sure that you keep your motivation up to see the results that you want — and you deserve — you have to choose the right workout.

Some people dive into the first workout that they find and end up hating it.  As a result, they see it as a failure and give up working out entirely. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that not every workout is for everyone. Choosing a workout that you actually enjoy can entirely change your experience and encourage you to keep going.

Here are the best tips for starting a new workout routine and making sure you love it.

Always Warm Up First

When you fail to warm up your body before getting active, you risk getting injured. The last thing that you want to do is go the gym and slip and fall off the treadmill because you didn’t properly warm up your muscles.

Your body is like a car. It’s crucial to get your engine warmed up before you drive it in full gear. Otherwise, you’re going to have a vehicle that breaks down on the side of the road.

Combine Strength and Cardio

One of the best ways to see the most amount of results in the fastest amount of time is to combine strength and cardio. Some people only do one or the other, and the fact is together, they’re much more effective.

If you love dancing, then be sure to do your dance routine as often as you like. Just make sure to incorporate some weight lifting a few times a week. You’ll get in shape much faster.

Hydrate

Many people fail to hydrate during their workout, which results in them getting fatigued and overheated. It’s crucial to keep a bottle of water near you during your exercise and take small sips regularly to make sure you’re replacing fluids for your sweat lost.

Take Before And After Photos

One of the best ways to stay motivated after starting a new workout routine is to take before-and-after photos.

Some people rely too heavily on the scale. Because their weight hasn’t dropped significantly, they assume that they haven’t made much progress. However, people sometimes forget that muscle weighs more than fat.

You may not weigh less, but taking progress photos can often reveal a lot more progress than you thought you had achieved.

Try to take photos once every two weeks. You’ll find that after taking a few pictures, the results you see may be enough to keep you going.

5 Things You Should Look For In a Family Doctor

Finding a family doctor shouldn’t be treated the same as something as simple as finding a pair of shoes.  When you’re putting your life into a doctor’s hands, it’s important to know that they’ll do their job correctly instead of putting you in harm’s way.

Even though you may want to choose the first doctor you find out of convenience; it’s essential to take the time to make sure you find an excellent fit for your family.  This is the person who you’ll be going to when one of you needs medical attention, so it’s crucial you make a good choice.

When it comes to what to look for in your family doctor, here are the most important things.

Experience

It’s nice to know that your doctor has a significant amount of experience.  Even though everyone has to start somewhere, ideally, you want to eliminate the possibility of potentially being misdiagnosed.

Try to find someone that’s been in their field for at least a decade.  They’ll be more relaxed and confident, and as a result so will you and your family.

Proximity

Having a doctor who is close to home is crucial.  When you’re feeling ill and need to be seen quickly, the last thing you want to do is sit in a traffic jam potentially vomiting in your car.

Opt for a doctor who is within a five-mile radius of your home.  That way the distance it takes to get to them doesn’t dissuade you from getting medical attention when necessary.

They Accept Your Insurance

A lot of patients make the mistake of showing up at their new family doctor’s office only to arrive at the counter after their appointment to find that they don’t accept their insurance.

Not only is it a costly mistake, but you’ll have to start your search all over again.  Always make sure to ask ahead of time on the phone.

You Have a Good Rapport

Your doctor is going to see you at your most vulnerable moments, so it’s vital that you trust and have a good rapport with them.  When you have a doctor who you feel rushes you or doesn’t seem to care about your overall well-being, you don’t feel like you’re in good hands.

Whereas when you walk into an office knowing that you’re about to see someone you’ve got a positive relationship with, you feel at ease.

Good With Kids

A lot of doctors may be great with adults, but when it comes to interaction with little kids, it isn’t their forte.

Since they’ll be dealing with both you and your little ones, make sure that you opt for one that likes children.  It’s imperative that they’re gentle with them should they have any fears about going to the doctor’s office.
