4 Tips For Self-Care In Your Senior Years

Our lives can be long and enjoyable well into our golden years with the right amount of self-care and precautions.  It is important to properly prepare for this time in our lives by ensuring that we set ourselves up for success.  This means foreseeing issues before they arise rather than attempting to correct issues after they’ve become a problem.

It is important to practice self-care so that you can enjoy this special time in your life and make sure that you are as comfortable and well-equipped as possible.

Live Somewhere Easy To Navigate

Even if you are not currently in a wheelchair, the time may come in your later years that you may have to resort to wheelchair assistance.  This means not living in a house up a hill or with a lot of stairs.  Even if the day never arises when you need a wheelchair, you will still want to make sure that you have a house easy to get around in.

Too many winding stairs or obstacles can become a nuisance to get around in your older age.  Therefore make sure that your house is well equipped to make sure that you can get around effortlessly and with ease rather than grumbling in discomfort.

Live Close To Family

As we get older as much as we may dislike it, we require the help of others.  Living close to family is a way to make sure that you have the help you need on call at any given time.

Even simple tasks such as unloading groceries can become difficult as a senior.  Although it can be humbling to reach out and ask for help doing things that once came so easily, family is there to help and you should take advantage by living close.

Get Plenty Of Exercise

It is important to stay active even if that means only walking a few minutes a day.  By keeping our bodies active and well maintained we can extend our lives and increase our health.

Doctors recommend at least 30 minutes of walking a day however if you suffer from joint pain or having issues walking you may want to discuss alternative low impact exercises that you can perform from the comfort of your own home. Perhaps a rowing machine, or perhaps even something like yoga.

Eat Wholesome Foods

Studies show that the diet and nutrition plays one of the largest roles in determining our health.  We are what we eat therefore if we eat a diet rich in wholesome foods derived from the Earth, our bodies will thank us for treating it kindly rather than filling it with harsh additives and chemicals.
